Our third team member in our series is Fiona Carr, our Microbiology Supervisor, who is based at our facilities in Ros Muc in Galway.
She works with our fantastic team who manage our Food Safety Programme and Environmental Services … and very enviably gets to work in the beautiful surroundings of Connemara!

Q: Tell us what a typical workday looks like for you?
It involves arriving on site and checking our daily schedule to see what’s expected in that day. Meeting with the teams to discuss the workload for the day.
Duties for each analyst are assigned at the start of every week and then it’s time to get stuck in. The great thing about my role is that every day is different, from setting up IQA to running proficiencies and liaising with suppliers. You never know what the day is going to be like – it’s certainly a challenging role that keeps me on my toes.
Q: What’s been your CLS highlight since joining the company?
I’ve had many highlights over the years. One that stands out was being involved in helping set up the Covid testing. That was a great learning experience, and it was exciting to be involved in something of that magnitude. To see the results of the whole set up and know I played a small part, I felt very proud.
Q: What three things you can’t live without?
I’d say it would have to be cheese, wine and laughter.
